Psychologist April 2nd

1. http://www.apa.org/topics/death/index.aspx (professional organization)
This source will be very helpful towards my profession because it has different links that lead to the different kinds of depressions you could work or deal with. This is a good start for me to see what exactly I want to go into. There is trauma, death, children and etc. I can relate to a lot of them but honestly I need to go through and pick one I can relate and give the most and most efficient feedback to. It describes each and every kind of depression and psychology topic you can think of. I am leaning more towards the death one and ADHD. I’m leaning towards these because I’ve been through a lot relating to these topics. I want to lean more towards that area so I can relate to my patients. Its American Psychological association so they have a lot of information to offer on their site.

2. http://laurafreberg.com/blog/ (blog)
Laura’s blog talks about eating disorders and the different outcomes and tests that she does. Coming from a psychologist herself she tends to focus only on these eating disorders for her own personal reasons I’m sure. She focuses on obesity people and dining out compared to home cooked meals. She also talks about how being a psychologist helps her in the social world. She loves her job and she can now she doesn’t feel socially excluded with everything. She also loves it because she can work at home. She looks into the different calorie intakes that people could do if they are worried about their weight as well. She gives different ideas to the people. This could help me think of different things to focus in on in my study. She does obesity within eating disorders and I could focus in on something more narrow as well.
3. http://www.telegraph.co.uk/science/science-news/7354536/Darkness-encourages-lying-and-crime.html (Magazine article)
I believe this website will help me with my paper because it shows the different feelings that scientists find within people. The website says that more people will commit crimes and do bad things because they have a dark side. They are gathering information from studies and actual people they watch and observe. So this information is fairly useful and accurate. They had them do a study in the dark. They had one room that was well lit up and a room that was dim. The dim room people cheated on their experiment and then the well lit room didn’t. That was their study to show the difference with dark and light in a mental and physical way. Then they did another experiment with sunglasses and regular clear glasses. The same result showed that the darker ones the more people acted badly on.
4. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Psychology (wiki source)
The Wikipedia source should help a lot because it gives the basic knowledge of a psychologist such as the history, humanism, schools of thought and etc. It gives exactly what psychologists consist of and what they do and gives you the brief blunt breakdown of who they are and what they do. They also list the different kinds of psychologists there are which will be helpful when it comes the specific area I want to specialize in. It gives very good details of each specific one and exactly what they have to do to get there and what exactly they do and talk about. More so as an area of how and what they talk to their patients about. It also describes the different research methods. In result of that it explains the controlled experiments and survey questioners. It’s a very informative website to say the least. The last thing they topped it off with was the different theories that came to mind.

Counselor

Counseling is something that I’ve always wanted to do. Helping people has always been my passion. Because I’ve been through a lot of things growing up as a kid I want to be able to relate to them and help them in the situations that I’ve been through as well. I want to be able to connect to the people I help. Counseling is also a stable job. Counseling is like nursing, the economy will always have a place for them. It pays pretty descent as well. Why not do something you love while getting paid great as well. No one helped me through the hard times I’ve been through and that might have an impact on how I am and how I do things with what go on with my life. I want to help anyone who needs to be helped mentally. Save the families that need to be helped or save lives from going into a dark depression is what I am looking forward to.
